About The Event
This is a fun, interactive lesson that introduces students to the stock market through a team-based, game-like simulation. Students that are naturally interested in investing or how the stock market works have the best experience in this class. To play the game, I will divide the class into two teams. Each team is responsible for managing a portfolio of investments. Over a five-year time frame, the teams will make investment decisions with a goal to have a profitable portfolio at the end of the five years. Each student will have multiple opportunities to hold, buy or sell their stock. The data used in this game includes actual stock prices from the last five years, providing an excellent opportunity to discuss how stock prices fall and rise. Finally, as a class, we will look up our stocks and their current prices online to see what our portfolio is worth today. Prior knowledge of the stock market is not required, and this class may be taken more than once. It is the class instructor's recommendation to have cameras turned on for the entire class. Cameras are required to be turned on during the first 15 minutes of class. This is a highly interactive class. Your student will be called upon at least 7 different times for interaction (introduction, 4 rounds in our game, and a "what did you learn/find surprising" exit question). Interaction/responses may be given via chat. Transfers will be honored when space allows, as long as a 24 hour notice is provided. Classes fill completely. Outschool refund policy applies. Students that are 10 or more minutes late may not be admitted to class. Once game instructions have been provided and game has begun, the class instructor will not be able to admit students into class.
